While American Latinos are at the center of many national conversations and are an obvious force in the digital space, Afro-Latinas are never fully seen with their whole identities. In social media, this means that they are either acknowledge as Latinas or as Afro-Descendants, not as a part of a fragment [niche] within a whole [niche] identity that cannot exist without both of the cultural elements of their identities.
This panel discussion lead by a group of Afro-Latinas influencers will touch on the issues of identity and how important it is to not only self identify as Latinas, but as Afro-Latinas to highlight the uniqueness of our experiences. By examining the diversity of work done by Afro-Latinas in the space, they will discuss the impact they have on bringing light to a population that is otherwise ignored and blended into the groups they seemingly fit into.
As a part of the conversation, panelists will highlight the real impact of Afro-Latinas in Social Media: representing with diverse stories and experiences while being powerful business women that can go from fashion, entertainment and beauty to advocacy, activism and cultural education. All of that, backed with statistics that prove Afro-Latinas are a niche that has the duality to appeal to a broader audience and truly a force to be reckoned with.
